Ataricade is home
to 13 Atari coin-op video game posters. Atari only produced
posters for specific coin-op video game titles (i.e. there
was not a poster made for each game). Other
coin-op video game posters that were in the collection at one point or
that are known to exist are I, Robot, Firefox,
Liberator, Night Driver, Sprint 2, Kangaroo, Missile
Command, Pole Position, Crystal Castles,
TX-1, Dig
Dug, Space Lords, Thunder Jaws, Skydiver and
a production side art version of Centipede.
Posters for Atari
pinball machines (e.g. Airborne Avengers and Middle
Earth) and Atari 2600 console titles, such as Yar's
Revenge and Haunted House, were also produced.
Popular titles such as Tempest, Asteroids, Warlords,
and Centipede (and probably others) had posters
produced as both a coin-op version and a 2600
version. The 2600 version posters were made in
a "cut-out" unique shape style, while the coin-op
versions all were produced traditionally
rectangular.

There are 2 versions of
Asteroids Deluxe posters: one with the high score table
(shown) and one without.
|
|
There are 2 versions of
Centipede posters: one with a nude girl (shown)
and one that depicts production Centipede
side art. An ex-Atari engineering
employee told me that the girl in this poster
worked in the Human Resources department at
Atari in the early 1980's. |

This poster is #1 of
7 that were made and it is signed by the artist from
the graphics department who created it,
Brian Ballisteri. This artwork was for
a Major Havoc sell sheet which didn't end up
getting produced, so the graphics
department produced 7 posters which were
given to each member of the Major Havoc
project team. The person in the photo
is one of the artists from the graphic team.
All this information was given to me by
Major Havoc creator, Owen Rubin. Owen
also said that he was in a photo like this
too but his picture didn't end up getting
used. |

An original
Star Wars poster like this one was scanned
at some point and the file is on the
internet, so it's been reproduced in many
different sizes and on many different materials.
Some colors on the reproductions I've seen
differ then those on the originals (e.g. blues on the original look more like
purples on the repros). |
